You come home from work, a day trip, or vacation and your dog is deliriously happy to see you until they see your reaction to their activities for the day. Pee and poop on the floor and your expensive upholstered chair has been torn to bits. Dogs need stimulation. It doesn’t need to be constant, but be at least every few hours. Young dogs need to burn off energy, but even older dogs benefit from midday walks because it keeps their joints and muscles from getting stiff. EVERY dog enjoys walking and discovering the neighborhood scents while leaving their own. They are programmed for this. Playing with them in the back yard is great, but they need more. Regular walking helps keep your dog calm and less destructive. Dogs are social and need to meet other dogs and people as long as it is safe. Even if you don’t like to walk your dog, hire a professional dog walker because you love them. One other thing, make sure your dog walker is in reasonable shape so they can keep up with your dog, particularly if they are young.
